Johor’s Household Income Ranks Among Highest in Malaysia Since 2022

Johor bahru: Household income in Johor has increased since the current state administration took office in 2022, placing the state among the highest in Malaysia in terms of household income levels. State Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources Committee chairman Lee Ting Han highlighted this during a session at the Johor State Legislative Assembly.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, data from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) revealed that Johor's median household income in 2022 was approximately RM6,879 per month, while the average household income was around RM8,517. The latest data for 2024/2025 shows a rise in the average household income to about RM9,484 per month, with the median household income increasing to approximately RM7,712 per month.

Lee Ting Han emphasized that the economic growth and investment inflows into Johor are resulting in higher incomes for residents, indicating tangible benefits beyond theoretical progress. Responding to questions from various assembly members, Lee addressed the impact of foreign investments on the community and initiatives to bolster local companies' development.

Additionally, Lee mentioned that the DOSM's Labour Force Survey reported Johor's unemployment rate steady at 2.5% by the end of 2025, which is below the national average of 2.9%. He further noted that Johor's economic success is not solely reliant on foreign investments, as demonstrated by the RM49.5 billion in domestic direct investment (DDI) and RM60.5 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) recorded last year.

Lee asserted that the confidence of both domestic and international investors is crucial for Johor's economic growth, underscoring the need for a balanced approach where both sectors grow together to sustain a robust economy.
