Johor Triumphs in Agong’s Cup Finale With Victory Over Terengganu

Kuala lumpur: Johor ended a nine-year wait for the Agong's Cup after defeating Terengganu 34-26 in the final of the 42nd edition of the prestigious rugby tournament at the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Stadium here today. Terengganu led 19-17 in the first half, but Johor mounted a strong comeback after the break to lift the trophy for the first time since 2017. According to BERNAMA News Agency, the victory marked Johor's third Agong's Cup title, having first won it in 2013. The win was a significant achievement for Johor, ending nearly a decade-long pursuit of the coveted trophy, while also showcasing their resilience and ability to overcome a halftime deficit. Earlier, in a thrilling third-place playoff, Kelantan edged Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) 43-41, highlighting the competitive nature of the tournament. The close contest added excitement to the event, with both teams displaying determination until the final whistle. Champions Johor took home RM20,000 in prize money, while Terengganu pocketed RM15, 000. Kelantan received RM10,000 for their third-place finish, and PDRM earned RM5,000. These prizes recognized the efforts and performances of all participating teams throughout the tournament. Johor's Aqasha Daniel Irwan was named player of the tournament, receiving RM1,000 in cash and a plaque. His outstanding performance was instrumental in Johor's success and was duly acknowledged with this individual accolade.
