Johor bahru: Johor recorded 9,954 dengue cases as of Epid Week (ME) 34 this year, an increase of 131.3 percent compared to 4,304 cases for the same period last year. State Health and Environment Committee Chairman Ling Tian Soon revealed that of the total, 4,520 cases or 45.4 percent were reported from outbreak localities while 5,434 cases or 54.6 percent were from non-outbreak localities.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ling stated that for ME34 alone, a total of 664 dengue fever cases were reported, marking an increase of two percent compared to 651 cases in the previous week. Of the total dengue cases reported throughout ME34, 308 cases or 46.4 percent were reported from outbreak localities, and 356 cases or 53.6 percent from non-outbreak localities.

He highlighted that Johor Bahru recorded the highest number of cases in the week in question with 495 cases or 74.6 percent of the total cases, followed by Kulai with 120 cases, Batu Pahat with 19, Segamat with nine, Kota Tinggi with seven, and both Muar and Pontian with four cases each.

Meanwhile, a concerning rise in fatalities was noted, with 13 deaths due to dengue recorded up to ME33 this year compared to eight deaths for the same period in 2025, an increase of 62.5 percent. Ling also noted that a total of 3,745 compounds with a total value of RM1.87 million were issued through enforcement activities throughout the year, with 80.2 percent of them paid.
