Johor Bahru: The Johor government is taking proactive steps to ensure the timely completion of several high-impact development projects across the state, with a particular focus on flood mitigation efforts in designated hotspots. As part of these measures, contractors involved in ongoing projects may be summoned if any delays are detected.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor, the State Housing and Local Government Committee chairman, emphasized the importance of adhering to project timelines. The state has earmarked approximately RM100 million for over 10 key projects this year, many of which are crucial for the upcoming Visit Johor Year 2026.
Monthly monitoring is conducted, with progress reports submitted to the Menteri Besar’s Office to guarantee the smooth implementation of these initiatives,” stated Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor during an inspection of the road-widening project at Persiaran Abu Bakar Sultan.
Key projects under this initiative include the upgrading of Johor Bahru City Council’s Hutan Bandar with a budget of RM10.3 million, eco-tourism development in Kampung Sungai Melayu costing RM12 million, and Phase Two of the Johor Zoo redevelopment, which requires RM7.3 million in funding.
Additionally, flood mitigation efforts are being prioritized in Kampung Mohd Amin and Jalan Dato Sulaiman, with allocated budgets of RM9.8 million and RM7.7 million, respectively. Other significant projects comprise a RM18.7 million recreational centre at Sungai Lebam in Pengerang and the RM9.3 million expansion of Persiaran Abu Bakar Sultan from four to six lanes. Most of these developments are slated for completion by December this year.
