Johor bahru: The decision by Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH) in Johor to contest all 56 seats in the forthcoming state election will not influence their cooperation at the federal government level, as stated by PH communications director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi emphasized that the stance taken by Johor BN and PH is a state-level decision and does not affect their cooperative relationship within the federal government. "I believe we will wait and listen to the views of the top leadership at PH level this afternoon," he remarked during a press conference at the PH Convention held at the Persada International Convention Centre.
When questioned about potential negotiations between BN and PH, Fahmi did not dismiss the possibility, stating, "Maybe, maybe, yes."
The announcement to contest all state seats was first made by Johor Menteri Besar and state BN chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, followed by a similar declaration from Johor PH chief Aminolhuda Hassan at the convention.
In related developments, Fahmi, who also serves as PKR information chief, mentioned that PH is ready to face any situation, including a Special State Assembly sitting reportedly planned for June 24.
Reflecting on the convention, Fahmi noted that it proceeded smoothly with an attendance of over 8,000 members, delegates, and leaders, surpassing the initial target of 5,000 participants.
Later today, Prime Minister and PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to deliver the keynote address and officiate at the PH 2026 Convention, themed 'Tekad MADANI, Harapan Rakyat' (MADANI Resolve, People's Hope). Other prominent leaders expected to speak include DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, and PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
