Johor Bahru:The Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project is tackling complex engineering challenges to ensure a safe cross-border journey.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, RTS Operations Pte Ltd (RTSO) chief executive officer Dr. Marzuki Ariffin emphasized that despite the RTS Link connecting only two stations, delivering a reliable service involves intricate integration of various system components. Key challenges include the viaduct's three percent gradient, requiring precise coordination of track design, braking, and signaling systems to manage safe train speeds and accurate station stops.
Dr. Marzuki also noted that wet weather conditions reduce grip between train wheels and rails, further complicating the train's acceleration and braking performance. Addressing these challenges involves extensive design efforts, testing, and teamwork from engineering and project teams in both Malaysia and Singapore.
He expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts of Malaysia's Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) and Singapore's Land Transport Authority (LTA), highlighting their cooperation under a "One Team" spirit.
RTSO announced that the RTS Link is projected to begin operations in February 2027, with all system tests and trial runs aimed for completion by December 31 this year. The timeline considers the remaining work duration and the necessary time for third-party safety certification and approvals from authorities in both countries.
