KOTA TINGGI: Nur Hazurah Md Hazahar, a 21-year-old sailing athlete from Johor, tragically lost her life in a motorcycle accident in Bandar Penawar. The accident occurred when her motorcycle collided with a car making a U-turn.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Kota Tinggi police, led by Supt Yusof Othman, reported that the incident took place at 4:50 p.m. Nur Hazurah was riding a Yamaha Y15ZR when it collided with a Perodua Kenari driven by a 51-year-old man. The car, which was coming from Bandar Penawar, attempted a U-turn, resulting in the fatal collision. The victim suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the car driver escaped unharmed.
The police confirmed that Nur Hazurah’s body was taken to the Forensic Unit of Kota Tinggi Hospital for further examination. The case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
The tragic death of Nur Hazurah has drawn condolences from various quarters. State Youth, Sports, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee chairman, Mohd Hairi Mad Shah, expressed his sympathies on social media. He noted that Nur Hazurah had represented Johor at the 2022 and 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA). The Johor State Sports Council, acting on behalf of the state government, visited the athlete’s family and provided a contribution of RM2,500.
Mohd Hairi extended his prayers for the deceased, hoping for her to be among the righteous. The community continues to mourn the loss of a promising young athlete.
