Johor Allocates Over RM66 Million to Strengthen State Public Health Sector

Johor: The Johor state government has spent more than RM66 million to strengthen the state's public health sector over the past four years of its administration. Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi stated that this allocation was made to ensure the welfare and health of approximately four million people in the state continue to be preserved.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the state government has emphasized the importance of prioritizing public health issues as they directly impact the lives of the citizens. Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi highlighted that under traditional methods, such significant funding might not have been directed to the Johor State Health Department (JKNJ). However, given the pressing health needs of nearly four million Johor citizens, the government has taken proactive steps to address these concerns.

While officiating the state-level Nurses' Day Celebration at the Sunway Big Box Hotel, Datuk Onn Hafiz emphasized his commitment to strengthening JKNJ and ensuring continuous attention to the public health sector. The celebration was also attended by Johor health director Dr. Mohtar Pungut.

The state government is also addressing the healthcare workforce shortages, particularly focusing on the need for more nurses and doctors in Johor. Datuk Onn Hafiz assured that collaborative efforts are underway to promptly fill these vacancies.

In a gesture of appreciation, Datuk Onn Hafiz announced an allocation of RM500,000 for nurses and RM100,000 for medical assistants in the state. This move is part of the state's ongoing efforts to recognize and appreciate the contributions of healthcare workers. The allocation for nurses has seen a steady increase since 2023, starting from RM200,000, and is projected to reach RM400,000 by 2025.
