Kuala lumpur: Two shooters, one target. That's the story of Johnathan Wong and Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi as they gear up for next month's 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Johnathan Wong, who has previously competed in the 2010 (Guangzhou), 2014 (Incheon), and 2022 (Hangzhou) editions, is setting his sights on a medal, preferably gold, in the men's 10-meter air pistol individual and mixed team events. Armed with a new pistol, Johnathan expressed renewed hope for striking a medal and shared his aspirations after a visit from chef de mission Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan at the National Sports Council (NSC). Despite the stiff competition from world-class shooters in the region, he remains optimistic, thanks in part to the support and flexibility provided by the NSC, which allows him to balance his work and training schedule.

Meanwhile, veteran shooter Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi, who will turn 44 during the Asiad, is preparing for her sixth appearance at the games with the aim of clinching a gold medal, the only accolade missing from her collection. Since her Asiad debut in 2006, she has won a silver and two bronze medals. Her past performances include a bronze in the 10m air rifle individual event in 2010 (Guangzhou) and a silver and team bronze in the 50m rifle prone in 2014 (Incheon). Known for her remarkable feat of competing while eight months pregnant at the 2012 London Olympic Games, Nur Suryani plans to focus on her own abilities and enjoy the competition, stating that miracles can happen if she concentrates on her performance without worrying about her competitors.

Both shooters have expressed their dedication and passion for the sport, with Nur Suryani further sharing that she has no plans to retire as long as her country needs her expertise.
