Johor Bahru: The Johor Motorsports Racing (JMR) team have announced Chevrolet as their new constructor for the 2025 season, marking a significant milestone for the team. The two Johor princes – Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman Hassanal Jefri Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Sultan Ibrahim – will compete in the Corvette Z06 GT3.R, making JMR the first team in the region to field the race car with two entries this season.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Chevrolet Motorsports Competition Programme director Mark Stielow expressed it was an honour to welcome JMR as a Corvette Z06 GT3.R customer team. He expressed excitement to watch and support Prince Jefri, Prince Abu Bakar, and all of JMR throughout the season. Stielow also noted the continued interest in the Corvette GT3 worldwide and looked forward to building a relationship with JMR, which offers more exposure and opportunities for Corvette Racing and the Corvette brand in new markets.
Meanwhile, Tunku Abdul Rahman, JMR team president and principal driver, shared his enthusiasm for the new partnership. He recalled his visit to the GM headquarters in Detroit and being impressed by their facility and the hospitality of the GM family. He expressed eagerness to start the season and work closely with the new manufacturer, highlighting the significance of being the first team running the Z06 in the region with two cars. He hoped this collaboration would be long-lasting and successful.
Since their debut in 2019, in partnership with Triple Eight Race Engineering and Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing, JMR have achieved three championship titles and 53 podium finishes. The team experienced their most successful year in 2022, capturing the GT World Challenge Asia Team and Pro-Am Drivers’ Championships, as well as the GT Australia Endurance Championship.
Tunku Abdul Rahman was the Pro-Am runner-up in the 2021 GT World Challenge Australia and the 2024 Asian Le Mans Series. His younger brother, Tunku Abu Bakar, finished as drivers’ runner-up in the 2023 GT World Challenge Asia during his debut season.
