JKM Ready To Face Rise In Flood Victims Amid Northeast Monsoon

Kuala lumpur: The Department of Social Welfare (JKM) in each state is prepared to face a possible increase in the number of flood victims at temporary relief centres (PPS) if the flood situation worsens. The Malaysian Meteorological Department has upgraded the continuous heavy rain warning to the orange level for several states on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia following the current Northeast Monsoon (MTL) surge, which is expected to last until Dec 18.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri emphasized the readiness of JKM to provide immediate assistance if necessary, thanks to their presence in every district. She highlighted that all relevant parties have been instructed to remain fully prepared to ensure the safety and well-being of the people are protected.

Nancy reported that as of 4:30 pm, eight PPS were still operating in five states across the country, involving 93 families with a total of 219 victims. JKM has taken immediate action, including opening PPS, facilitating self-registration of victims through the MyIBJKM system, and distributing basic necessities.

She assured that relief supplies are adequate to meet the needs of all victims placed in PPS.
