JKM Depot Improvement Plans in Kelantan Announced by Nancy Shukri.

TUMPAT: The Social Welfare Department’s (JKM) disaster relief supply depot in Kelantan is set to undergo improvements, as announced by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri. She emphasized the ministry’s dedication to enhancing the distribution of food aid and essential supplies to all temporary relief centres (PPS) in the state, despite currently having only one depot located in Pengkalan Chepa.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Nancy Shukri highlighted the ministry’s awareness of concerns regarding the insufficient number of JKM depots and expressed commitment to addressing these issues. She mentioned plans to divide aid into different zones to eliminate any shortages in food supply. Additionally, efforts will be made to increase the stock of essential items at the existing depot. This information was shared during a press conference held after Nancy’s visit to flood victims at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Seri Tumpat 2 PPS.

Nancy further assured that the distribution of aid i
s continuously being refined to overcome challenges such as cut-off roads, ensuring that supplies reach the PPS efficiently. She also acknowledged that some JKM personnel have been personally affected by the floods. To manage this, staff who worked during the first wave will be given rest and replaced by other personnel in preparation for subsequent flood waves.

In a broader effort, Nancy mentioned that 4,590 JKM staff nationwide, in collaboration with other agencies and volunteers, are actively involved in supporting flood victims across the affected regions. Earlier in the day, Nancy visited Fadiah Seman, 69, in Kampung Kuala Sat, Machang, to provide assistance after the tragic loss of her husband, Shukarno Mahmood, 72. Shukarno drowned when his boat capsized due to strong currents while returning from checking on his livestock. His body was found approximately 100 metres from his home.
