Gua musang: The Gua Musang District Social Welfare Department (JKM) is set to collaborate with the Ministry of Health (MOH) to verify the disability status of an Orang Asli woman residing in Kampung Rejom. This collaboration aims to facilitate the medical assessment required for her registration for a Persons with Disabilities (OKU) card.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Gua Musang District Social Welfare Officer Bun Tham Eh Gin highlighted the importance of this verification process for Noria Alueg, a 40-year-old from the Temiar tribe. The assessment will determine her eligibility for the OKU card, which is essential for receiving appropriate welfare assistance.

"For this case, JKM will liaise with MOH for the next process. Once the assessment results and her disability status are confirmed, we will process the OKU card registration and subsequently consider suitable assistance," Bun Tham explained to reporters. He also mentioned that if Noria is confirmed as an OKU, she might be eligible for the RM300-a-month Cash Assistance for Disabled Persons Unable to Work (BTB).

Bun Tham further shared that JKM had previously provided the necessary OKU card registration form to Noria's family last year. However, the process stalled as the form was not returned, and medical confirmation was not obtained.

Noria's sister-in-law, Noraida Sarim, 54, expressed challenges faced by the family, including transportation difficulties. With Noria's husband working away from home, Noraida takes care of Noria and her two young children, aged five and seven, but the lack of transportation hampers their ability to seek medical treatment and complete the OKU registration process.
