JKDM’s Major Drug Bust at Courier Facility Uncovers RM1.2 Million Worth of Illicit Substances

Miri: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) has successfully intercepted a drug trafficking operation that utilized courier services, seizing drugs valued at RM1.2 million. This operation took place last month, highlighting the innovative yet illicit methods employed by traffickers to transport narcotics.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sarawak Customs Director Norizan Yahya revealed that the initial seizure was conducted at 2 pm on March 14. A unit of customs officers from the Narcotics Branch discovered a suspicious parcel at a courier service company situated in Eastwood Valley Industrial Park, Miri. Upon a detailed inspection, they found the package contained 3.6 kilogrammes of Ecstasy, with an estimated value of RM603,371, along with 1.01 kilogrammes of Ketamine valued at RM50,600.

Norizan further detailed that a subsequent seizure occurred at the same courier company and on the same day. The customs team uncovered another parcel, which contained two packages of Ecstasy, weighing 3.45 kilogrammes and valued at approximately RM577,653. These packages were cleverly disguised among food products, signifying the lengths to which traffickers go to evade detection.

The investigation revealed that the drug syndicate’s modus operandi involved using air courier services from the Peninsula to Sarawak, dispatching these illicit packages to uninhabited addresses to avoid capture.

The cases are being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which deals with trafficking dangerous drugs, reflecting the serious nature of the offenses and the commitment of the authorities to combat drug trafficking.
