JDT’s 7-1 Victory Over Melaka FC Provides Boost Ahead of Melbourne City Clash

Johor bahru: Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) head coach Xisco Munoz expressed that his team’s decisive 7-1 victory over Melaka FC was an essential boost as they gear up for their AFC Champions League (ACL) match against Melbourne City.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Munoz highlighted that after returning from a two-week break, the team exhibited renewed energy and character, pivotal elements in their preparation for the upcoming continental fixture in four days. He praised the team’s strong physicality and mentality, noting that these attributes were evident despite the recent layoff, making the performance ideal for ACL readiness.

Munoz acknowledged the challenge of breaking down the opponents’ low defensive block but commended his players for maintaining creativity and effectively combining through wide areas and central channels. Looking ahead to the ACL tie, Munoz urged his players to remain vigilant against Melbourne City, a team he described as stronger and more complete than last season. He emphasized the need for JDT to stay ambitious, adhere to their playing identity, and be prepared for the intensity and physical duels that Melbourne will bring.

Meanwhile, Melaka FC head coach K. Devan admitted that defensive errors in the second half were the primary cause of their heavy defeat. Despite conceding two early goals, Devan noted that Melaka defended well in the first half. However, their inability to respond to JDT’s one-touch play after the break resulted in three quick goals, setting the stage for a challenging second half.

Devan also mentioned that Melaka’s main focus this season is to maintain their position in the Super League. He revealed that the team is in the process of acquiring new foreign players, including those from Africa, Colombia, Japan, and Korea, to strengthen the squad during the second transfer window.
