JBPM Deployed to Manage Flood Risks at Putrajaya Shopping Mall

Putrajaya: The Federal Territory of Putrajaya Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has mobilised its personnel to monitor rising water levels at a shopping mall here following continuous heavy rain today. The department is taking proactive measures to ensure that the situation remains under control and that no casualties occur due to the adverse weather conditions.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Muhamad Haziq Hazmi, assistant director of the Putrajaya JBPM Fire and Rescue Operations Division, stated that the department received reports about the rising water levels in the area, prompting immediate monitoring efforts. The JBPM has also been responding to several complaints related to water ponding and flood-prone areas caused by heavy rain around Putrajaya between 3 pm and 4 pm today.

In response to these reports, fire and rescue stations in Precinct 7 and Precinct 14 have been conducting patrols and monitoring several hotspots to ensure safety and control. The areas under surveillance include residential zones in Precinct 9 Phase 5 and 6, the Precinct 11 Tunnel, Perumahan Penjawat Awam Malaysia (PPAM) Seruling Precinct 5, the Putrajaya Convention Centre, and surrounding areas in Precinct 16 and Precinct 17.

Inspections have been carried out on the drainage systems and water levels in areas at risk of water accumulation to prevent flash floods. Continuous monitoring is also being executed through the CCTV system, in collaboration with the Putrajaya Command Centre (PPj).

The department remains on full alert to face any eventualities due to the current unpredictable weather conditions. Early monitoring and continuous patrols are being conducted to identify any flash flood risks immediately, ensuring swift action by the fire and rescue team to maintain public safety.

The public is advised to stay vigilant regarding the weather conditions and to report immediately to authorities should they witness any emergency or increase in water levels in their respective areas. This advisory follows several viral videos showing flooded parking areas at the shopping mall due to today's continuous heavy rain.
