KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) has introduced complimentary funeral management services aimed at assisting the underprivileged, including the asnaf group, individuals unable to cover funeral expenses, unclaimed bodies, those without next of kin, and new converts to Islam.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, announced that priority for these services will be given to residents of the Federal Territories. The initiative underscores JAWI’s effort to uphold fardhu kifayah obligations for all deceased individuals, irrespective of their background or age, covering those with no next of kin, unclaimed bodies, or those who have recently converted to Islam.
Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar highlighted JAWI’s dedication to serving the community, particularly within the Federal Territories, and commended the department’s role as a government agency focused on public welfare. He noted that JAWI has consistently led Islamic affairs in the region, including funeral management, since its establishment.
