Kuala lumpur: The Ministry of Works (KKR) has allocated RM64.7 million for development projects in the Jasin district this year. Its Deputy Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Maslan, disclosed that the allocation comprises RM40.7 million for physical development projects, with an additional RM24 million designated for quotation works.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Public Works Department (JKR) has successfully completed four building projects and one road project in the Jasin district to date. Several other projects are currently underway, including slope repair works and the construction of a replacement canteen building and a covered open hall at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kesang Tua. Ahmad expressed hopes for the smooth implementation of these projects.

During a visit to the Jasin District JKR office, Ahmad emphasized the importance of project cost control. He stated that JKR projects must adhere to Value Management or Value Assessment (VA), a process involving the Ministry of Economy and relevant ministries. JKR not only implements projects under KKR but also serves as the executing agency for projects from other ministries, with 27 ministries entrusting their projects to JKR.

Ahmad provided an example, explaining that if the cost of constructing one kilometer of road is RM10 million, that should be the standard cost. However, if costs increase, the Ministry of Works, particularly JKR, is advised to investigate and provide explanations for the discrepancies. Ahmad noted that while cost increases can occur due to reasons such as land acquisition, there must be valid justifications.

Earlier, Ahmad visited Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tun Tijah in Duyong to address electricity supply issues, accompanied by Duyong state assemblyman Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem. He also reviewed a proposed upgrade at the AMJ Highway Intersection FT109, Section 4.50 - Jalan Salim, alongside Sungai Rambai assemblyman Datuk Siti Faizah Abdul Azis, aimed at reducing congestion and enhancing road safety.
