JAIPk To Decide On Action Against Khatib Over Friday Sermon Issue

Perak: The Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk) has announced that its Disciplinary Committee will decide on the next steps regarding a khatib (person who delivers the sermon) who allegedly read a Friday sermon text from the Penang Islamic Religious Affairs Department (JHEAIPP) on Jan 31.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, JAIPk deputy director Zakaria Abd. Razak stated that an investigation was conducted by the Parit Buntar Islamic Religious Administration Office. The findings have been submitted to the Management Division for further review.

Zakaria mentioned that the Disciplinary Committee will examine the situation and determine suitable action, in accordance with the Perak State Mosque Officers Regulations 2018. He emphasized the importance of mosque officials respecting JAIPk’s authority, which is responsible for overseeing the content of Friday sermons.

“Mosque officials must carry out their responsibilities diligently and follow established guidelines,” he noted, stressing that adherence to regulations is crucial to prevent potential issues.

Previously, the police had transferred the investigation to JAIPk after the khatib reportedly did not deliver the sermon prepared by the state religious authorities. Acting Perak police chief DCP Zulkafli Sariaat confirmed that police had recorded statements from two individuals who filed reports about the incident.
