ISG Malaysia Becomes First Youth Martial Arts Centre Accredited by DSD

Kok lanas: Institut Silat Seni Gayong (ISG) Malaysia has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first institution in the country to receive recognition from the Department of Skill Development (DSD) for its youth martial arts training programme based on silat gayong.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, DSD director-general Dr. Kamaruzaman Md Ali announced that the accreditation has been awarded to ISG Malaysia's learning centre and its industry partner, Amru Ventures. The programme will be conducted through the academy-in-industry (ADI) approach, allowing for a combination of institutional and real industry environment training. Specifically, 20 to 30 per cent of the training will take place at the institution, while the remaining 70 to 80 per cent will be conducted by Amru Ventures in the field of martial arts, focusing on silat gayong.

Dr. Kamaruzaman highlighted that this achievement marks the first time silat gayong has been structured in accordance with the National Occupational Skills Standard (NOSS) under the DSD's certification system. Previously, no training institute had sought official certification for martial arts under the NOSS structure, even though foundational curricula exist in silat, karate, and taekwondo.

He further explained that four major aspects are evaluated for certification approval: training premises, teaching staff, structured curriculum including assessments, and training equipment. This national-level certification is expected to open up new career opportunities for trainees, enabling them to become coaches, teachers, or professionals in the fitness and security industries.
