Kuala lumpur: The Tun Abdul Razak Broadcasting and Information Institute (IPPTAR) needs to strengthen its learning ecosystem, strategic partnerships, and talent development to become a regional centre of excellence for communications, broadcasting, and information training.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah emphasized the need for IPPTAR to evolve as the communications and media industry undergoes rapid transformation driven by artificial intelligence (AI), virtual reality technology, digital content creation, and new media platforms. "Our aspiration is to strengthen a more dynamic learning ecosystem, expand strategic collaborations with local and international institutions, and nurture talent capable of leading the digital media, broadcasting, and strategic communications industries in the era of emerging technologies," he stated.
He delivered these remarks at the opening of IPPTAR Day 2026, which included attendees such as Communications Ministry Senior Undersecretary (Management) Datuk Aminurrahim Mohamed, IPPTAR Director Datuk Roslan Ariffin, and Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) News Service Deputy Editor-in-Chief Mohd Shukri Ishak. Abdul Halim highlighted the crucial role IPPTAR has played over the past 55 years as a premier training centre supporting the government's communications agenda through the development of highly skilled and quality human capital.
He further elaborated on IPPTAR's evolution from a broadcasting training institute, initially focused on specialised technical training for the Department of Broadcasting Malaysia, into a comprehensive training institution that also addresses strategic communications for the Department of Information Malaysia under the Communications Ministry. This evolution has attracted strategic training collaborations with countries such as Cambodia and Timor-Leste, reinforcing IPPTAR's reputation as a reference institution at the ASEAN level.
Moreover, strategic collaborations with the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development and the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union have bolstered IPPTAR's regional standing. IPPTAR Day 2026 garnered support from 19 government agencies, including Radio Televisyen Malaysia, Department of Information Malaysia, Bernama, National Film Development Corporation Malaysia, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, and MyCreative Ventures.
The programme intends to strengthen IPPTAR's role as a professional development institute for the national communications and broadcasting industry. The theme, "Terus Cemerlang" (Continuing Excellence), encapsulates IPPTAR's five-decade journey as a public training institute dedicated to producing skilled personnel in broadcasting, strategic communications, and media management.
