Ipoh City Music Month Promotes Music As The City’s Identity

Ipoh: The Ipoh City Music Month is more than a series of performances, but a movement to make music part of the city's identity, said Perak Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a range of activities are being and will be organised throughout July, including the Harmony Music Cup, a leisure music run, Jom Menyanyi Bersama, Music in Every Corner of the City and Perak On Beat. Loh emphasized that the intention is for the entire city to resonate with music, noting that a vibrant city is characterized by creativity and life beyond its architectural beauty.

He expressed a vision where Ipoh would be recognized not just for its culinary and historical offerings, but also as a musical hub. Loh shared these thoughts during the prize-giving ceremony of the 3rd Harmony Music Cup International Music Competition and Ipoh City Music Month 2026.

The event, organized by the Ipoh Chinese Cultural and Orchestra Association, attracted around 3,000 participants from over 100 teams across the nation, as well as from Taiwan and China. To support the event, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) approved RM100,000 in funding, with the state government contributing an additional RM50,000.

Loh stated that the financial support is expected to serve as a catalyst for the organizers to elevate Ipoh's profile, aiming to establish it as one of the most anticipated international music events in Malaysia.
