Investigation Paper On MRSM Bullying Case Submitted To DPP – Police

Nibong Tebal: The investigation paper on a bullying case involving a group of students from Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM) in Nibong Tebal has been submitted to the deputy public prosecutor (DPP) for further action.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad stated that the investigation paper was completed after police recorded statements from the students involved and MRSM staff, and obtained medical reports.

Hamzah revealed that the incident, which took place in the middle of last year, occurred only once and it is believed that the students may have been fooling around. However, further investigations were conducted. He shared this information during the Penang Police Contingent Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration attended by dignitaries including Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Earlier, police confirmed the circulation of a one-minute and 31-second video on social media, showing a student being bullied in a dormitory at MRSM in South Seberang Perai. The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

Meanwhile, Hamzah reported a significant 44.8 per cent drop in the crime index in Penang from January to March this year, with a reduction in cases from 1,128 to 623 compared to the same period last year. This decline includes a 30.1 per cent drop in violent crime cases.

Additionally, the Penang police successfully resolved 5,400 cases related to drug abuse during the same period. Hamzah assured that the safety and public order situation in the state remains under control.
