Kuala lumpur: Intermark Mall is ushering in the Year of the Horse with a unique Peranakan-inspired Chinese New Year (CNY) theme, Heritage in Bloom, starting February 26. This celebration offers visitors a chance to experience traditional customs through a modern lens, encapsulating the season's spirit of optimism and new beginnings.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the campaign, spearheaded by Intermark Mall's General Manager Marketing, Evelyn Woon, draws inspiration from the rich artistry of Peranakan culture. Woon emphasized that the theme celebrates Malaysia's multicultural identity and its rich history. "Peranakan culture is a reflection of Malaysia's layered history, where different influences have come together to form something distinctive and deeply rooted," Woon stated in a recent announcement.
The Ground Floor Atrium of the mall has been transformed into a vibrant setting inspired by Peranakan artistry. It features intricate floral designs, ornate patterns, and colorful d©cor, centered around a signature Peranakan House installation. The campaign seeks to present cultural traditions in a way that resonates with modern urban lifestyles, offering both locals and international visitors an opportunity to experience tradition as part of everyday celebration.
Evelyn Woon highlighted the importance of the celebration in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2026, stating, "With Heritage in Bloom, we want to highlight these cultural expressions in a way that feels natural within an urban lifestyle setting. Expect to find authentic Peranakan kebayas, intricately crafted beaded Nyonya sandals, and flavors at Intermark Mall this season."
The Heritage CNY Marketplace is a key feature of the festivities, showcasing curated offerings from tenants like Carven Ong and SoMe Boutique. It presents festive fashion, merchandise, and artisanal finds with a contemporary twist. Traditional lion dance performances and an Elegant Table Setting and Dining Etiquette showcase, inspired by Peranakan heritage and curated by interior stylist Dr. Garima Chopra, are also part of the celebrations.
Food enthusiasts can indulge in Peranakan flavors with cooking ingredients and cookbooks by celebrity chef Debbie Teoh, who was recently honored at the World Gourmet Awards 2024. Sustainability initiatives are also incorporated into the campaign, including a pre-loved clothing collection drive called Blooming Spring Cleaning, and the ReBag initiative, alongside festive redemptions such as exclusive Intermark Mall angpow packets and CNY rewards.
