Intelligence From Integrity Units Helps MACC Record 65 Arrests In 2025

Kuala lumpur: Strategic intelligence channelled by officers in Integrity Units (UI) and Integrity and Governance Units (IGU) within government agencies has helped the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) record 65 arrests and 379 charges involving corruption cases in 2025. MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman said the achievement reflects the effectiveness of strategic collaboration and the commission's continued commitment to strengthening governance and integrity in the public service as well as government-linked companies (GLCs).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a total of 104 intelligence inputs were channelled through the MACC's Agency Integrity Management Division (BPIA) last year for further action, marking a 0.9 per cent increase from 96 in 2024. Azmi stated that the MACC would continue to fortify its enforcement role in combating corruption through the strategic intelligence provided by officers placed in UIs in public agencies, as well as IGUs.

Azmi added that in line with the aspirations of the 13th Malaysia Plan (2026-2030), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has also emphasised the need to empower the role of UIs in government agencies as a key line of defence against corruption. As of March 31, 2026, 100 MACC officers are stationed in UIs and IGUs, comprising 92 officers in UIs of public agencies and eight officers in IGUs of GLCs, thus broadening oversight and prevention roles across strategic sectors.

Azmi reminded officers stationed in external agencies to uphold proper conduct and discipline aligned with the trust placed in them. Additionally, UI and IGU officers are urged to actively monitor, including preparing MACC Reports (LSPRM) and advisory recommendations for the agencies under their supervision, which have been made a standing agenda in Governance Committee (JTK) meetings to strengthen governance.

Earlier, Azmi chaired the MACC senior management meeting with officers seconded to external agencies. The meeting also included an engagement session with MACC officers in external agencies, BPIA director Lim Bee Kean, and representatives from the Public Sector Integrity Investigation Division (CBA).
