Kuala lumpur: Intel Corporation has announced an additional investment of RM860 million, aiming to transform Malaysia into its assembly and test operations hub, as revealed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. This significant investment underscores the global technology company’s confidence in Malaysia’s long-term strategic initiatives, including the New Industrial Master Plan 2030.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Intel has expressed its gratitude to the Malaysian government for its ongoing support, particularly in developing the advanced packaging facility in Penang. This facility, involving RM12 billion in capital expenditure, is nearing completion with 99 percent of the work already done. The announcement was made following a courtesy visit from Malaysian-born Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, who has achieved noteworthy success in the global semiconductor and software industries.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the evolving semiconductor sector and strategies to bolster Malaysia’s position as
a preferred destination for high-quality investments. Anwar Ibrahim also welcomed Intel’s initiatives in collaboration with educational and training institutions. These collaborations include elective subjects and research and development projects, which have received a funding commitment of RM2.8 million over the past two years.
The Prime Minister emphasized that these investments highlight a global company’s confidence in Malaysia as a pivotal partner in driving innovation, enhancing the local talent ecosystem, and maintaining the country’s competitiveness on the international stage.
