Kuala lumpur: The National Institute of Public Administration (INTAN), through its Centre for Communication and Language Studies (PPKB), continues to strengthen the competency of Public Service Munsyi Muda Bahasa (MMB) to ensure official government information is delivered accurately, clearly, and authoritatively.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, PPKB head Ahmad Hisham Idris stated that the effort is being carried out through the 2026 Munsyi Muda Bahasa Empowerment Workshop, themed Fundamentals of Translation and Dictionary Literacy. The workshop is part of INTAN's ongoing initiatives to enhance the skills of MMB as language reference officers across various ministries and departments.
The workshop equips participants with the necessary skills to utilize dictionaries and authentic language reference sources for resolving linguistic issues and preparing official documents. Participants are introduced to the fundamentals of translation to produce accurate and context-appropriate translations, while also strengthening professional networking among MMB to facilitate the sharing of expertise and linguistic advisory services.
The three-day workshop, which began on Tuesday, brought together 84 MMB, with 35 attending in person and 49 participating online. It features three main modules: Cendekia Bahasa (language scholar), Fundamentals of Translation, and Dictionary Literacy.
Meanwhile, National MMB Secretariat chairman and workshop coordinator Mohamad Ikhwan Al Syahid emphasized the importance of continuous competency development to ensure MMB remains relevant amid the evolving public service landscape. He noted that rapid advances in digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) have made translation skills and dictionary literacy increasingly crucial in maintaining accurate, consistent, and authoritative government communication.
These competencies are vital for officers, particularly in technical agencies, to carry out their duties effectively. Mohamad Ikhwan Al Syahid added that strengthening MMB's role as language reference officers would enhance the quality of official documents and government communication.
The workshop also serves as a platform to expand professional networking among MMB nationwide and promote the sharing of linguistic expertise and advisory services across the public sector. Participants included MMB from various ministries and departments, such as the Malaysian Space Agency, the Department of Atomic Energy, the Public Works Department, and the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).
