Inform Village Heads Before Conducting Qurban Activities, Ulu Tiram Residents Told

Ulu tiram: Residents intending to perform qurban (sacrificial) rituals, particularly on a private basis, are advised to report the activity to their village heads beforehand to ensure compliance with the prescribed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ulu Tiram Village Head Shazrul Idham Abd Aziz made the reminder following a tragic incident where a 45-year-old man was fatally gored by a buffalo during a qurban ritual in Kampung Tenang, Ulu Tiram. The incident, which occurred last Wednesday, happened without the knowledge of village authorities as the activity had not been reported to them.

Apart from the fatality, another similar incident was reported about five kilometres away in Batu 19, Kampung Sungai Tiram, resulting in a man sustaining three broken ribs, although this area is not under the jurisdiction of Shazrul Idham. He recounted learning about the Kampung Sungai Tiram incident through a viral video, initially mistaking it for an event in his village.

He expressed concern over the Kampung Tenang incident, which not only resulted in a fatality but also left another individual with a broken arm. Shazrul Idham oversees three villages in Ulu Tiram: Kampung Banjar, Kampung Tenang, and Kampung Tiram, and he stressed the importance of reporting qurban activities to village authorities.

He explained that reported qurban activities would be referred to the Mosque and Surau Mobilisation Committee of the respective state constituency for permit applications. This measure aims to ensure that qurban rituals are conducted in line with established guidelines, thereby reducing the risk of accidents and injuries.

In the Kampung Tenang incident, Ahmad Shah Meerasa, 45, succumbed to vascular injuries to his left leg at Sultanah Aminah Hospital at 11 pm after being gored by a buffalo. Police have classified the case as a sudden death. The victim's nephew reported that Ahmad Shah managed to walk to a four-wheel-drive vehicle after the attack but collapsed shortly thereafter.
