Influenza Situation in Johor Remains Under Control with No New Clusters Detected

Kuala lumpur: The influenza situation in Johor is reportedly under control, with nine clusters recorded so far and no new ones detected, according to State Health and Environment Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon. He confirmed that one of the clusters involves a Special Education Integrated Programme (PPKI) class at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Taman Permas Jaya 2, which was reported recently.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Ling Tian Soon emphasized that the situation remains manageable and expressed hope that it would not worsen. He made these remarks during the Bulan Malaysia Sihat Sejahtera celebration and Ops Selamat Paru-Paru event. Ling also urged schools and the public to promptly send students and staff exhibiting symptoms of infection to nearby healthcare facilities.

The Johor State Health Department, in collaboration with the District Health Offices, is actively monitoring the situation to ensure it remains under control, Ling added. When questioned about health screenings at border crossings to control the spread, he noted that such screenings, including body temperature checks, are part of the long-standing standard operating procedures (SOP) enforced by the Health Ministry (MOH). He stated that there is currently no need to enhance control measures, and any further actions will be taken following the ministry’s directives.

Further, last Wednesday, Johor Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin announced that the PPKI class at SK Taman Permas Jaya 2 would be closed for 10 days from Oct 8 due to the spread of influenza cases. This decision followed the confirmation that five students, a teacher, and a student management assistant had tested positive for influenza A, with 15 other students in the same class showing similar symptoms.
