Influencer’s Staged Disappearance Sparks Police Complaint

Muar: The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has lodged a police report against a motoring influencer and his younger brother for filing a false report about the influencer’s alleged disappearance in Sungai Tui, Jalan Bukit Kepong, here last Monday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, JBPM Johor Zone 4 chief Senior Fire Superintendent II Norshuhada Amsari stated that the report was filed at the Muar District Police Headquarters (IPD) at 11:30 am yesterday following advice from JBPM Director-General Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad. The department considers filing false reports about disappearances or accidents as both irresponsible and disruptive, leading to a waste of time and resources for rescue personnel.

Norshuhada emphasized that such actions affect the response to other emergencies as officers and personnel focus on the false report location, undermining public trust in agencies like JBPM. She urged the public to refrain from engaging in acts that disrupt rescue teams’ responsibilities.

During the four-day search and rescue operation, over 30 JBPM officers and personnel from Muar, Labis, and Pagoh were dispatched to the location immediately after the influencer’s younger brother filed the missing person report. The Water Rescue Team (PPDA) and seven assets, including a Fire Department drone, were deployed to the scene.

The situation took a turn when police later informed JBPM that the individual was safe and had never been at the reported location. Norshuhada expressed disappointment but also appreciation for the dedication of rescue personnel involved in the operations. She hoped those responsible would issue a public apology.

Recent media reports revealed that a businessman and owner of a vehicle accessories shop was reported missing after the Perodua Axia he was driving allegedly plunged into Sungai Tui. However, Muar District Police Chief ACP Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz disclosed on Saturday that investigations showed the 38-year-old man had allegedly staged his disappearance and fled to a neighbouring country, with his brother allegedly conspiring by providing false statements for personal gain.
