Jakarta: Malaysia experienced mixed fortunes in men's doubles at the Indonesia Open 2026 Badminton Championships when second seeds Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik suffered a shock second-round exit while Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani checked into the quarter-finals today.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, world No 3 Aaron-Wooi Yik produced a limp display to go down 14-21, 14-21 to Indonesia's rising pair of Raymond Indra-Nikolaus Joaquin at Istora Senayan. This marks the first encounter between the top national men's doubles pair and the world No 12 Raymond-Nikolaus. The unseeded Indonesians will next face Japanese world No 9 Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi in the quarter-finals.
Thankfully for Malaysia, world No 8 Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin kept Malaysian hopes alive in men's doubles with a 21-11, 21-13 win over England's world No 11 Ben Lane-Sean Vendy. This victory was significant as it was the seventh-seeded Malaysian pair's first win over the Englishmen after three previous defeats. Their next challenge will be against the world No 30 pair of Hariharan Amsakarunan-M.R. Arjun, following the Indians' victory over another Malaysian duo, Kang Khai Xing-Aaron Tai, with a score of 16-21, 21-15, 21-19 in their second-round clash.
Meanwhile, Malaysia's challenge in women's singles, men's singles, and mixed doubles came to an end in the second round. K.
