Indonesia Masters: Pearly-Thinaah, Two Men’s Doubles Pairs Through To Round Two

Jakarta: Three Malaysian doubles pairs, including the top women's combination of Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, marched into the second round of the Indonesia Masters badminton championships in Jakarta today. The top-seeded Pearly-Thinaah had to slog for a 21-15, 20-22, 21-19 opening-round win over Francesca Corbett-Jennie Gai of the United States at Istora Senayan. World number two Pearly-Thinaah will face Taiwan's Lin Xiao Min-Wang Yu Qiao next.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Mohd Rumsani needed 31 minutes to subdue Chen Zhi Yi-Presley Smith, also of the United States, 21-15, 21-17 to check into the second round of the men's doubles event. They will meet either Wesley Koh-Kubo Junsuke of Singapore or Liu Kuang Heng-Yang Po Han of Taiwan next.

Another Malaysian men's doubles pair, Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong, defeated Taiwan's Lee Fang-Chih-Lee Fang-Jen 21-13, 21-18 to set up a second-round clash against Indonesia's Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani.

In other Malaysian results, Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani of Indonesia beat Chia Wei Jie-Lwi Sheng Hao 21-18, 19-21, 21-10, and Lee Jhe-Huei-Yang Po-Hsuan of Taiwan defeated Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi 21-18, 21-15. Ben Lane-Sean Vendy from Great Britain overcame Choong Hon Jian-Muhammad Haikal Nazri 17-21, 21-17, 21-3.

In the women's doubles, Tsang Hiu Yan-Yeung Pui Lam from Hong Kong beat Chong Jie Yu-Vanessa Ng 21-16, 21-10.
