Indian Community’s Support Crucial for Pakatan Harapan in Johor Polls: Gunaraj

Johor: The Indian community has been urged to lend their support to Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the Johor state election to maintain political stability and continue the MADANI reform agenda, which promises sustained economic development.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Central Leadership Council member Dr. Gunaraj George emphasized the pivotal role that the Indian community could play in influencing the outcome in nearly 25 mixed and marginal State Legislative Assembly seats, despite being a minority in Johor. He highlighted that the election is more than just electing representatives; it's about choosing between ongoing political stability and the risk of returning to political uncertainty, which could negatively impact the economy, investments, and the nation's future.

Dr. Gunaraj underscored the significance of every vote from the Indian community, asserting their potential to sway results in crucial seats. He expressed confidence that the Indian community would support Pakatan Harapan, enabling them to continue the MADANI agenda aimed at a more prosperous and inclusive Malaysia. He further noted the necessity for a stable and credible government, especially in the face of global economic uncertainties, geopolitical tensions, and rising living costs.

Gunaraj, who also serves as the Sentosa Assemblyman, pointed out that after over three and a half years in office, the MADANI Government has demonstrated its commitment through policies and initiatives benefiting all citizens, including the Indian community. Among the notable achievements is the increase in the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA) allocation from RM100 million to RM150 million, with further assurances from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for progressive increases.

He also highlighted the enhanced transparency and accountability in MITRA's management, including systematic monitoring and parliamentary accountability of its programmes and funds. Additionally, the MADANI Government has increased allocations for Tamil National-Type Schools (SJKT), provided maintenance aid for places of worship, expanded Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes, and implemented cash aid schemes like Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA).

Dr. Gunaraj concluded by urging voters to assess the MADANI Government based on its performance and track record, as PH prepares to contest all 56 state seats in the Johor state election on July 11.
