India Emerges As Standout Performer In Khazanah’s Portfolio

Kuala lumpur: India has emerged as a standout performer in Khazanah Nasional Bhd's portfolio over the past decade, delivering around double the productivity returns and underpinning the sovereign wealth fund's decision to remain overweight in the country, while China remains a key market.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Khazanah chief investment officer Datuk Hisham Hamdan emphasized the importance of India and China as vital markets for the group, alongside ASEAN. He noted that India has been a country where Khazanah has consistently outperformed, maintaining an overweight position in both India and China to capitalize on future growth opportunities. During the Khazanah Annual Review 2026 media briefing, Hisham highlighted China's progress in new technology sectors and the expected continuation of a strong pipeline of Hong Kong IPOs in 2026.

Bernama previously reported on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's series of high-level meetings with prominent Malaysian corporate leaders during his recent visit to Malaysia. Among these meetings was a significant discussion with Khazanah managing director Datuk Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir, who underscored India's economic transformation and potential as a high-growth investment destination.

According to India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), these meetings demonstrated strong investor confidence in India and a shared commitment to enhancing economic and technology partnerships between the two countries. Amirul Feisal further elaborated that Khazanah's global investment strategy aims to diversify risk across asset classes while seizing long-term growth opportunities, with India playing a crucial role in their strategy.

Amirul Feisal mentioned that Khazanah has been investing in India since 2008, and the market has shown significant growth over the years, remaining an integral part of their global investment strategy. Modi's two-day official visit to Malaysia on February 7 and 8 was at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, reciprocating Anwar's visit to India in August 2024.
