Kuala Lampur:The Perak Sejahtera 2030 Human Capital Empowerment and Lifelong Learning Programme may see an increase in funding under the 2027 state budget to enhance employment opportunities and economic independence for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Datuk Salbiah Mohamed, chairman of the Perak Women, Family, Social Welfare, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Committee, emphasized the need for more funds to sustain economic development and provide targeted skills training for PWDs. The state government has currently allocated RM80,000 to support initiatives empowering PWDs to become competitive and economically independent.
Salbiah expressed the hope that the current year's allocation would be increased to implement more targeted skills training programs. She made these remarks at the Launching Ceremony of the Perak State PWD Awareness Month 2026, which was officiated by Datin Seri Aezer Zubin, the wife of the Perak Menteri Besar, and attended by over 500 guests, including PWDs, NGOs, and government representatives.
The existing program funds have been distributed to eight NGOs and selected Special Education Integration Programmes (PPKI) in Perak to support vocational training modules. For instance, at PPKI Tasik Damai, training in culinary arts and barista skills is provided, equipping individuals to pursue entrepreneurship or employment upon completing their education.
The program also aims to increase public awareness about respecting PWD rights and boost their self-confidence. Salbiah noted the importance of fostering a more inclusive and PWD-friendly environment across Perak, addressing societal attitudes and the misuse of facilities designated for PWDs, such as toilets and parking spaces.
