Kuala lumpur: The Malaysian Immigration Department has emphasized that its enforcement actions are driven by intelligence and operational needs rather than seasonal factors. Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban clarified that enforcement efforts are not linked to specific times of the year, as infractions can happen at any moment.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Zakaria explained that while certain periods, like festive seasons, may enhance detection capabilities by revealing movement patterns and concentrations of individuals at particular locations, enforcement activities are consistently guided by intelligence and operational requirements. Between March 20 and 24, 2026, the department conducted 45 immigration inspections and monitoring operations, known as Ops Pantau, across the nation. These operations involved 3,826 checks on foreign nationals at targeted locations to verify their status and travel documents.
Zakaria highlighted the importance of coordinating these operations to ensure they are carried out in an orderly, controlled, and integrity-driven manner. He stated that field enforcement officers are regularly reminded to adhere to discipline and standard operating procedures while respecting cultural sensitivities and community norms.
The department is committed to conducting enforcement operations continuously and responsibly, including during festive seasons, to maintain compliance with Malaysia's immigration laws. Zakaria noted the department's consideration for foreign nationals celebrating festivals away from their families, ensuring inspections are conducted respectfully and professionally.
Zakaria also emphasized that this approach helps minimize anxiety and inconvenience for the local community, particularly in public spaces. He reaffirmed the Immigration Department's dedication to balancing law enforcement demands with social norms and community harmony.
