Immediate Measures Taken To Expedite Reopening Of One Lane At Moonlight Bay – Zairil

Kuala lumpur: Immediate measures have been taken to reopen a lane along Jalan Batu Ferringhi near Moonlight Bay, which was closed due to cracks and subsidence. Penang Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the measures were implemented following discussions with the Penang Public Works Department (JKR) to accelerate the reopening of the lane for the comfort and safety of motorists.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, these immediate measures include deploying a site supervisor or a designated flagman to ensure better traffic flow management so that vehicle movement is more orderly and controlled. Additionally, concrete works will be carried out and extended into the night to expedite overall project progress in the area. Zairil stated that the lane is expected to reopen on Dec 20, pending assessment of the road’s foundation strength, with on-site work continuing even after the lane reopens.

Zairil also mentioned that additional manpower will be deployed to improve efficiency and ensure smoother operations on-site. It is understood that the route frequently experiences severe congestion, especially during peak hours when commuters travel to and from work.

It was reported that the closure until Dec 31 was to facilitate repair work and other related activities by a contractor appointed by the Northeast District JKR. Zairil previously said that the lane has been closed since Oct 21 for soil nailing works, which the contractor has now completed. Further inspections indicated that certain sections of the road require additional reinforcement before they can be safely reopened to the public.
