Kuala Lumpur:Malaysians who utilize illegal syndicates for marriage arrangements in southern Thailand may encounter religious and legal complications if the marriage is not solemnized by an accredited kadi, or Muslim marriage solemnizer.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Marhamah Rosli emphasized the importance of ensuring that marriages conducted abroad are officiated by accredited personnel to avoid difficulties during registration in Malaysia. The Malaysian courts will assess the list of accredited kadi as part of the marriage registration process to ensure compliance with Islamic law.
Marhamah advised couples to plan their marriages in an honest and lawful manner, considering not just the marriage itself but also the legitimacy of any offspring. She expressed these views during a program visit in Kampung Kedai Buluh, highlighting the potential validity issues for marriages that do not meet Islamic requirements.
Additionally, Marhamah cautioned Muslims against engaging in activities that could challenge their faith, specifically pointing to the growing trend of Halloween celebrations among the youth. She urged the public to evaluate such activities against Islamic principles, as social media trends might lead individuals to adopt foreign customs that may not align with their religious beliefs.
She stressed the importance of maintaining one's faith and tauhid, urging society to be mindful of their actions as they influence future generations. Marhamah also highlighted the pivotal role parents play in educating their children on permissible activities under Islam, suggesting the availability of alternative activities that align with their faith.
