Illegal Dump Site Raises Concerns Among Puncak Alam Residents

Puncak Alam:The presence of an illegal dump site covering about 1.2 hectares near Rentak Perdana and Ritma Perdana has caused concern among more than 8,000 residents due to foul odors emanating since last month.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, a check revealed that the land near these housing areas is filled with piles of construction, industrial, and domestic waste. Residents have reported that lorries have been entering the area to dump rubbish since July.

Ahmad Hosni Mubara, 42, chairman of the Rentak Perdana Residents Association, mentioned that complaints had been lodged with the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council (MPKS). In response, MPKS took enforcement action by sealing the access route with concrete. However, this measure has not fully resolved the issue, as the foul odor persists, especially during rainy weather.

The pollution has also attracted large numbers of flies and mosquitoes, raising health concerns, particularly for children. Earlier, representatives from the Selangor Department of Environment (DOE), MPKS, and Jeram State Assemblyman Datuk Harrison Hassan inspected the site.

Ikhwan Hafizi, a representative of Ritma Perdana residents, reported an increase in venomous animals and rats, with residents having caught three snakes in the area. He emphasized the need for immediate cleaning action to address the safety and health risks.

MPKS Health and Environment Department Area Supervisor Shahril Adlan Ahmad stated that the council took action by excavating the access route to the site on September 16 to prevent further illegal dumping. He added that cleaning and waste collection are planned for the near future, expected to take a month.

Jeram State Assemblyman Datuk Harrison Hassan mentioned that the Kuala Selangor Land and District Office would take legal action against the landowner under Section 7A for breaching land title conditions. Additionally, MPKS has been advised to issue a compound and order the immediate cleaning of the site.
