IFRS Foundation Appoints ESGright As First Approved Education Partner In Malaysia

Kuala lumpur: ESGright Sdn Bhd has been appointed as the first Approved Education Partner in Malaysia for the Fundamentals of Sustainability Accounting (FSA) Credential by the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Foundation.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the local boutique sustainability training and advisory firm stated that with this appointment, it has become the IFRS Foundation's provider for FSA Credentials at Level 1 and Level 2. The FSA Credential is a globally recognised qualification focused on sustainability-related financial disclosures.

"Through this accreditation, ESGright is now authorised to deliver FSA certification programmes designed to equip corporate professionals, investors, auditors, consultants, and sustainability practitioners with the knowledge and practical competencies in sustainability-related financial disclosures aligned with International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) standards," the firm said.

ESGright principal consultant Prathab V expressed that the appointment marked significant recognition for the firm, which was also recently acknowledged by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) as its fifth largest trainer globally and third largest in the Asia Pacific in 2025.

Malaysia currently has 95 FSA-certified professionals, a number anticipated to grow rapidly amid the increasing demand for clearer and more accurate sustainability reporting. The firm plans to launch its FSA training programme starting in July this year to strengthen the capabilities of Malaysian professionals and businesses in implementing globally recognised sustainability reporting standards and integrating sustainability considerations into financial decision-making.

"As Malaysia accelerates efforts to strengthen sustainable economic growth and attract green investment, ESGright has taken a significant step to enhance sustainability competency building and sustainability-related professional certification in the country. The initiative is expected to benefit over 1,000 listed issuers on Bursa Malaysia and large non-listed companies as organisations seek to report in compliance with the National Sustainability Reporting Framework (NSRF) and global investor demands," Prathab V stated.

The NSRF was introduced by the Securities Commission in September 2024, establishing a mandatory sustainability reporting framework based on a climate-first approach aligned with the standards of the ISSB. ESGright has trained close to 300 participants since 2023 towards professional GRI certification. To date, Malaysia boasts 160 GRI certified professionals, the highest in the ASEAN region.

"We played a big role in advancing awareness and adoption of the GRI standards in Malaysia, and we aim to do the same for the ISSB," he added.
