Gua Musang:An identity card and birth certificate hold significant importance for the Orang Asli community in Gua Musang, serving as vital tools for accessing education, employment, and essential services, according to National Registration Department (NRD) director-general Datuk Badrul Hisham Alias.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, obtaining identity documents is a challenging task for residents in remote areas, requiring long and costly journeys to government offices. To address this, the NRD has adopted an outreach approach to deliver registration services to those in need. These documents are crucial for various aspects such as education, employment, banking, and marriage, aligned with relevant regulations.
During the Registration Literacy Programme at Pos Balar, part of the Kelantan-level National Registration Day, Badrul Hisham emphasized that identity documents represent more than administrative procedures. They embody hope for the future, offering recipients opportunities and confidence. The NRD is committed to extending its responsibility beyond processing applications to actively assisting those facing difficulties in accessing services.
The NRD's team experienced the challenges first-hand while navigating rain-soaked roads to reach remote areas. Residents voiced concerns, particularly about birth certificates for adults in the Orang Asli community. In response, the NRD plans to implement a special program to address these documentation issues.
The outreach initiative has enabled the department to better understand the needs of residents lacking access to facilities near government offices. The National Registration Day event, themed 'Identiti Amanah Negara', aimed to bring services closer to these communities. Badrul Hisham stressed the importance of safeguarding an individual's identity through proper registration from birth to death, ensuring records adhere to regulations.
He expressed gratitude to agencies and parties that contributed to the program's success, including the National Anti-Drugs Agency, Health Department, Agrobank, Social Welfare Department, and Sekolah Kebangsaan Balar. The NRD hopes to revisit Pos Balar to evaluate the program's impact and continue its outreach efforts for communities needing registration services.
