ICW Borneo 2025 Marks Start Of ASEAN’s Construction Transformation – Sarawak Premier

Sarawak: The International Construction Week (ICW) Borneo 2025 and the Construction Sustainability Summit are a significant ‘call to action’ for the construction industry, said the Premier of Sarawak, Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. He mentioned that the event marks the beginning of ASEAN’s transformation in the construction sector, with Sarawak taking the lead.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Premier highlighted that as ASEAN Chair in 2025, Malaysia has the opportunity to lead the region’s construction and infrastructure agenda, with Sarawak playing a pivotal role. He expressed pride in Sarawak’s leadership position and outlined the theme ‘Innovative Construction for a Sustainable Future’ as a reflection of the region’s commitment to a resilient, inclusive, and future-proof development strategy.

Abang Johari further described ICW Borneo 2025 not just as a regional event, but as a platform designed to shape the future of ASEAN’s construction sector. The event aims to foster collaboration, innovation, and sustainability across the region, setting a new benchmark for the industry.

He also addressed the evolving nature of the construction industry, noting a shift from focusing solely on scale and speed to prioritising innovation, resilience, and environmental harmony. In light of challenges such as climate change, rapid urbanisation, and resource constraints, he advocated for the adoption of green building technologies, low-carbon materials, and circular economy principles.
