KUALA LUMPUR: The I-Nation Global Summit 2024 serves as a significant platform to bring together diverse sectors and stakeholders in driving collaboration and cross-border partnerships that will accelerate the technological progress in ASEAN. Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang said the three-day summit comes at a pivotal moment in Malaysia’s journey towards becoming a leading technology hub.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, one area where rapid progress is being observed is renewable energy, with Malaysia on track to increase its renewable energy capacity to 31 percent of the national energy mix by 2025. This shift not only supports Malaysia’s national sustainability goals but also positions the country as a key player in the region’s green transition. This focus is critical as Malaysia prepares to assume the role of Chair of ASEAN in 2025. Guided by the theme ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’, the summit aims to ensure that all ASEAN nations benefit from shared prosperity and technol
ogical advancements.
Chang Lih Kang, speaking at the launch event organized by The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) with the Malaysian Research Accelerator for Technology and Innovation (MRANTI), emphasized the importance of collaboration across ministries, agencies, and stakeholders. By adopting a Whole-of-Government (WGA) approach, effective policies can be driven to promote economic growth and champion sustainable development across the region.
He further highlighted that the development of Smart Cities is directly aligned with Malaysia’s priorities as Chair of ASEAN, as they embody principles of inclusivity and sustainability. Malaysia’s Smart City framework promotes the use of artificial intelligence (AI), internet of things (IoT), and digital solutions to address urban challenges. Initiatives like the National Technology Innovation Sandbox (NTIS) enable companies such as Vectolabs Technologies to drive progress in smart cities and transportation via innovative solutions like the
LoRa IoT Network, improving operational efficiency and addressing urban challenges.
Additionally, Chang noted that MOSTI, through the Industry Technology Innovation Centre (ITIC), is advancing smart city development by enhancing AI, IoT, and geospatial technologies to improve public safety, energy efficiency, and urban infrastructure. Collaborations with entities like the Malaysian Industry Government Group for High-Technology (MIGHT) and the Malaysia Smart City Alliance demonstrate Malaysia’s dedication to using cutting-edge technologies to improve urban living.
The summit also features several satellite events, including The Supercharger Summit, Malaysia HealthTech Innovation Connect 2024, and the Ecosystem Builder Summit, which highlight advancements in various technology areas.
