Houses, Vehicles in Closest Vicinity of Gas Pipeline Fire Badly Hit, No Fatalities So Far

Putra Heights: Over 50 houses in Kampung Tengah, Kampung Kenangan, and Kampung Sungai Baru were badly hit by the gas pipeline explosion and subsequent fire in Putra Heights this morning. Checks by Bernama in the areas of Kampung Tengah and Kampung Sungai Baru-located just around 200 meters from the fire-revealed many of the bungalows and double-storey terrace houses were nearly completely consumed, while others were rendered uninhabitable due to the damage of the fire.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, doors, floors, and even aluminum ceilings were not spared, while vehicles such as cars, motorcycles, and school buses were destroyed by the blaze. Residents likened this morning’s gas pipeline explosion along Jalan Harmoni Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, Selangor, to an earthquake, and many of them were still shaken by the blast and chaos that ensued. Efforts to put out the fire are still underway, and rescue operations are ongoing.

A family celebrating Hari Raya in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baharu, Batu 13, recounted the ordeal they went through and expressed relief that no lives were lost. Housewife Aliyah Ismail, 55, said her house and belongings were completely destroyed. She and her daughter Nadia Muhammad Nasir, 36, were preparing an Aidilfitri meal when the explosion occurred. Aliyah described the terrifying moments as the aluminum ceiling began to melt, and intense heat built up in the house. Her family managed to escape, though her sons suffered minor injuries from burns.

Meanwhile, Kampung Tengah resident Husaini Sabil, 33, said he and his wife were woken by neighbors urging them to save themselves from the fire. He described the intense heat and orange sky filled with smoke. Although they escaped, Husaini sustained a slight burn on his hand.

Fellow resident Mohamad Shukri Suhaimi Bahshah, 33, noted that while his house remained intact, his motorcycle and car were burned. He and his family evacuated to the relief center at Nurul Iman Mosque, Kampung Tengah.

Kampung Tengah village development and safety committee chief Fiqrie Jusdean shared efforts to evacuate residents to a temporary relief center for safety. He mentioned that authorities are working with firefighters and police to ensure everyone’s safety despite the ongoing smoke from the incident.

Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) Zone 8 councillor Khairol Basri M Arif provided an update on evacuation efforts, stating that about 30 families have been moved to the relief center at Putra Heights Mosque. The initial location, Nurul Iman Mosque, has been designated as an emergency aid and medical center for affected victims. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and emergency aid for those affected, especially senior citizens and individuals with disabilities.
