Home Ministry to Equip Immigration Officers with 600 Body Cameras and Implement Autogates

Kuala Lumpur: The Home Ministry (KDN) is set to enhance the integrity and transparency of the immigration service by equipping officers with approximately 600 body cameras. The initiative is a direct response to concerns raised by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim regarding the integrity of the immigration service, as announced by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Saifuddin stated that the Prime Minister personally contacted the Immigration director-general to emphasize the urgent need for body cameras. Saifuddin instructed the KDN secretary-general to expedite the procurement process, with the acquisition of the body cameras scheduled for April 28.

In addition to the introduction of body cameras, the Home Ministry plans to replace most manual counters with autogates at international airports by June. This move aligns with the Prime Minister’s goal to streamline the process of tourist entry and exit at border checkpoints, thereby reducing processing time significantly.

Saifuddin emphasized the government’s commitment to improving public service delivery and bolstering public trust in enforcement agencies through these measures. The announcement was part of the Home Ministry’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration, which was attended by Prime Minister Anwar and other notable figures, including Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki.
