KUALA LUMPUR: The Home Ministry has announced plans to strengthen border security across Malaysia, focusing on technology-driven solutions to ensure the safety and protection of the nation and its citizens. Instead of building a physical wall along the Malaysia-Thailand border, the ministry will implement cost-effective technologies to combat cross-border crimes.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail highlighted the challenges posed by rat trails along the Malaysia-Thailand border, which have been exploited for smuggling and human trafficking. In a Facebook post, Saifuddin Nasution emphasized the ministry’s commitment to leveraging technological innovations as a more economical and efficient alternative to traditional border control methods.
The minister also announced the imminent launch of the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), which will begin its cross-border operations in Rantau Panjang, Kelantan. This move aims to enhance the Home Ministry’s efforts in securing Malaysia’s borders, with border security remaining a top priority since Saifuddin Nasution’s appointment.
To address congestion at Malaysia-Singapore entry points, the ministry has introduced QR codes for buses and motorcycles at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) and the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) in Johor. The initiative has improved traffic flow, while the implementation of autogates at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and other key locations has streamlined the entry process into Malaysia.
Saifuddin Nasution also stressed the importance of the welfare of personnel stationed at the nation’s borders. He noted the completion of a housing project for security personnel in Padang Besar, Perlis, which includes facilities like a mosque, a multipurpose hall, and a playground. This initiative reflects the ministry’s commitment to investing in both national security and the well-being of those tasked with its maintenance.
The Home Minister reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring that advancements in technology and international cooperation contribute positively to the nation and its people, urging continued unity in efforts to protect Malaysia and foster a peaceful and prosperous future.
