Mantin: A hole-in-one helped three-handicapper Shahrul Erman Abdul Aziz and his partner to secure a spot in the season-ending Grand Finals of the Asian Business Golf Championship (ABGC), which will be held at the renowned The Els Club Teluk Datai in Langkawi from Oct 11-14.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the sixth leg of the ABGC, which provides an ideal platform for business leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals to build meaningful business relationships while sharing a common passion for golf, was held at the Staffield Country Resort in Mantin, Negeri Sembilan, yesterday.
With berths at the Langkawi Grand Finals up for grabs, the sixth leg of the homegrown championship attracted 90 enthusiastic golfers, with the scenic yet challenging Staffield Country Resort providing a stern test of strategy, patience, and partnership.
Apart from claiming a spot for the Langkawi Grand Finals, Shahrul Erman's day proved to be a rewarding one when he scored an ace on the 11th hole of the Southern course en route to leading VFive Technologies Sdn Bhd to victory in the gross category.
With five-handicapper Mohd Hazrain Abdul Karim providing able support, the pair emerged victorious by two strokes with a combined effort of five-under par. For his hole-in-one feat, Shahrul received a luxurious Gavyn sofa set sponsored by Fella Design worth RM10,815.
Second place went to the Can Builders Sdn Bhd pair of Mohd Hizir Abdullah (5) and Razid Sukiran (7), while Maulana Sports Sdn Bhd's Ahmad Farhan Abdul Wahab (12) and Mohd Firdaus Ahmad (4) finished third with a combined score of two-under par.
The nett division in the Two Ball Best Ball Stableford competition was tightly contested with the top 15 teams all returning the maximum score of five-under par. Playing to a combined handicap of seven, Hemat Navigation Sdn Bhd's Amir Benno (0) and Norhanar Jaafar (7) claimed the top prize on countback.
Second place went to the Event Pro Venture duo of Mohd Hafizi Zainal Abidin (6) and Mohd Azlan Ahmad (5), while Universiti Putra Malaysia's Fadzrul Abbas and Zailani Khuzaimah finished third. All winners received personal care prizes sponsored by Panasonic Malaysia and trophies, with the gross and nett champions advancing to the Langkawi Grand Finals.
Staged under the royal patronage of the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, the ABGC features seven qualifying rounds at prestigious golf clubs across Peninsular Malaysia. The final qualifying round is scheduled for Sept 24 at Templer Park Country Club.
