Penaga: The remains of Mustaqqeem Mansor, the hiker who tragically passed away at the summit of Gunung Liang Barat in Perak, were solemnly laid to rest at the Muslim Cemetery of Masjid Jamek Nurussaadah Lahar Tabut in Penaga following dawn prayers. The burial took place with a large gathering of family, friends, and local community members present to pay their final respects.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Mustaqqeem, aged 34, was found deceased on Thursday at the top of Gunung Liang. He had embarked on a climb with a group of ten friends starting from Fraser’s Hill on October 10 and had been missing since October 14. His body was retrieved from the 1,933-meter summit with the assistance of a Fire and Rescue Department Air Special Unit helicopter. The post-mortem conducted at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital in Ipoh determined the cause of death as hypothermia.

The funeral service was attended by over 200 individuals, creating a somber environment. Mustaqqeem’s wife, Nur Faratin Mohd Othman, was observed in deep mourning during the proceedings. His younger brother, Muzammeer Mansor, expressed gratitude to all who participated in the search and the subsequent funeral arrangements. The family remains in shock and deeply affected by the incident.

Mustaqqeem’s mother, Rohani Saad, expressed her unease regarding the circumstances of her son’s death. She recounted how Mustaqqeem’s friends, who were with him during the hike, searched for him for over six hours without success. Yet, the Fire and Rescue Department located his body within three hours. Rohani questioned why no police report or communication with the rescue team occurred sooner, expressing the family’s difficulty in accepting the situation despite acknowledging it as fate.
