Alor setar: The Sultan of Kedah, Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah, has urged all parties not to turn institutions of higher learning into platforms for political activities. He also reminded that institutions of higher learning are meant for acquiring knowledge, not for spreading slander.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, the Sultan emphasized that if knowledge is used as a tool for politics and slander, it will destroy public trust and hinder the future of the coming generations. He called upon all parties to unite in ensuring that institutions of higher learning in Malaysia uphold integrity and are anchored in truth. His Royal Highness made these remarks at the 38th Convocation of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) at the university’s Dewan Mu’adzam Shah.
Sultan Sallehuddin, who is also the Chancellor of UUM, stressed that universities should serve as bridges of unity, not walls of division. He expressed pride in UUM’s achievements, noting that the university is now ranked 491st in the world and excels in quality education and innovation.
Furthermore, His Royal Highness congratulated the 6,832 graduates receiving their degrees in nine convocation sessions at UUM, which will be held from today until November 13. In his address, Sultan Sallehuddin advised the graduates to apply their knowledge wisely and to become individuals who build and unite society.
