Kedah: The Kedah Civil Defence Force (APM) has identified 18 locations across five districts in the state that are at risk of flooding due to an expected high tide phenomenon from tomorrow until Friday. These districts include Kuala Muda, Kota Setar, Kubang Pasu, Yan, and Langkawi.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, APM Director Lt Col (PA) Mohd Bukhori Mat Sidik noted that recent weather has been stable with no rain, which has helped improve the flood situation. Currently, only two temporary relief centers remain open at Sekolah Kebangsaan Langgar and Dewan Serbaguna Pokok Sena, providing shelter to 164 people from 51 families. However, the potential for worsening conditions exists if high tides coincide with heavy rainfall.
In Kuala Muda, villages such as Kampung Kepala Tanjung, Bukit Kechik, Tukang Jusoh, Paya, Sungai Meriam, Sungai Yu, and Tanjung Dawai are identified as high-risk areas. In Kota Setar, locations like the Kuala Kedah Jetty, Seberang Kota Fishermen’s Jetty, Taman Sri Putra, and Taman Sri Pantai are also vulnerable. Kubang Pasu could see flooding in Kampung Kuala Kerpan, Muara Kampung Kuala Jerlun, and Muara Kampung Kuala Sanglang. Yan’s at-risk areas include Kampung Kuala Raga, Kuala Sala, and Kuala Sungai Yan Kechil, while Langkawi faces potential flooding in Kampung Bakau Kelibang.
High tides are forecasted at various times from October 7 to October 10, with waves potentially reaching three meters. Although the current weather forecast is favorable, the Kedah APM remains vigilant with 900 personnel on standby.
Mohd Bukhori urges the public to heed warnings from authorities and stay proactive in ensuring the safety of family members and securing important documents to mitigate any potential inconvenience.
